Burrito Run
How life changed for Mike Kratzer in the first chapter of Physical Recreation Services
This might sound a bit crazy.
How far would you run to eat a burrito?
5 k? 10 k? 15 k for a really good one maybe?
But what if there was more meaning wrapped up in that tortilla?
What if that burrito was way more than a 650-calorie meal?
What if it showed the way forward, away from a wayward past?
Then and now. Now and then.

How far would you run then for a moment to reflect on how far you've come?
Then and now. Now and then.
Connecting dots. Connecting memories.
Life before, life now.
Addictions. Obsessions. Connections.
Drinking up a new guilty pleasure.
Movement.

For Mikey, 80k is the perfect Burrito Run.
40k before. 40k after.
One burrito at Nate's, and one for the road.
But not like that.
That was then.
When Friday night's headed in one direction.
Helles & hedonism. On repeat.
The only set routine? The knowledge that Friday would go long, and get ugly.
Now? Mikey still goes long.
And it still gets ugly.
Just footsteps, not two steps.
The trail decides where the night leads. With a constant mad mission in mind.
To get to Crazy Nate's.
Where Friday nights are done differently.

Nate's is a riot of hot salsa and cold tequila.
But not for Mikey.
Maybe then. But not now.
Now? It's all about a quiet moment with a burrito.
A moment to think about how far Mikey has run - and come.
Then and now. Now and then.
And then? An about-turn.
Home time.
40k before. 40k after.
Done for a week.
Until next Friday.
When it gets Crazy again.
